Bad Advice

There’s nothing quite like receiving bad advice. It has a way of seeping under my skin and just nagging at me.

While it’s fine to just ignore when someone gives you bad advice, is it always a good idea? Nine times out of ten, probably. It’s that tenth time that I have to make sure I’m not the crazy person in the room. I find it a good exercise to take a step back and try to understand where is this person coming from? What can I learn from what he or she is trying to tell me? Perspective is important. Understanding why other people might think differently and what I can gain from the feedback, regardless of how off base it might be, can help me not only get over bad advice, but accept and grow into more than what I might have been able to do otherwise.
